Store, organize, contain and preserve your cookies in a canister or cookie jar

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

It’s Christmas Eve and we’re counting down the hours to the big day!  If your house is on Santa’s list to visit tonight, don’t forget to leave him some milk and cookies!

If your cookies are homemade, make an extra batch of cookies to eat as a treat on Christmas day or during the holiday period.  You’ll also want to be sure that your cookies stay fresh by storing them in either a plastic food storage container or cookie jar.   Cookie jars are great because they are decorative enough to leave on the countertop.  Cookie jars also come in a wide range of sizes, designs and styles.

The following cookie jars are also multi-purpose containers because they include salt and pepper shakers!  These cookie jars are great space savers and can be an excellent solution for homeowners with minimal counter space.
If you prefer the charm and simplicity of ceramic kitchen canisters, pick your favorite color and purchase a set of three.  Kitchen canisters can be used, not only store cookies, but to store sugar, coffee, tea and flour.

Elegant Serveware that Maximizes Tabletop Space for your Holiday Party

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009

sorrento-bowl-caddyTypically, most holiday parties are done in buffet style due to the large quantity of guests being served.  Being able to bake, cook and display buffet style also gives the host more time to actually spend enjoying her party and guests, and less time in the kitchen.

To maximize the space on the dining or buffet table and also provide visual interest, use servers or caddies that are stacked vertically.  By using the vertical space, you will use less horizontal space, allowing you to get more food on the table, while eliminating a cluttered or cramped look.  You can find caddy serveware that hold sauces or dips, and plate caddies that elegantly display guest plates using wrought iron or metal holders.

Getting everything organized for a holiday party, including decluttering surfaces and spaces, tidying, cleaning and decorating, can be stressful enough without the worries of how you’re going to get everything on the table.   Elegant iron serveware can make the simplest food appear fancy!

Organize and store indoors or out with a versatile baker’s rack

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

bakerA long time ago, the baker’s rack was used in bakeries to cool batches of pies and other baked goods.  The baked goods were placed on metal shelving allowing them to cool.

Nowadays the baker’s rack is a stylish piece of furniture used to store and organize all types of kitchen and dining items.  Some baker’s racks are also used in other rooms of the home for storage or display purposes and may showcase the homeowner’s decorative items and collectibles.  Either way, the baker’s rack can be used as an extension of your kitchen countertop, additional storage in your dining room, or storage in any room of the home.  Here are some ideas of how you can take advantage of the storage space in a baker’s rack:

Kitchen: microwave, small kitchen appliances, kitchen canisters, cookbooks and cookware.

Dining room: china, collectibles, table linens, servers, wine bottles (choose one with a built-in wine rack).

Living room: As an étagère to display collectibles.

Bathroom: towels, decorative items, toiletries (use baskets for smaller items), extra paper supplies.

Hall/Entry: As an entryway organizer for backpacks, bags, hats, gloves, scarves (use baskets), keys (some baker’s racks have built-in hooks).

Covered Patio or Outdoor Shed: As a potting station for small garden tools, gloves, apron, seeds, potting soil etc.

Organizing a Fun Tailgate Party

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

Football season is almost here and the American tradition of tailgating at football stadiums is still going strong.

According to Wikipedia, a tailgate party is a social event held on and around the open tailgate of a vehicle. Tailgating often involves consuming alcoholic beverages and grilling food. Tailgate parties usually occur in the parking lots at stadiums and arenas before, and occasionally after or during, sporting events and rock concerts.

Organizing a tailgate party can be a lot of fun and relatively easy, especially when everyone is involved in the preparation.  Tailgate parties are usually a pot luck event, so don’t try to do it all yourself. Ask partygoers to each bring something to share or enjoy.  It may be a food item, cooking equipment or decorations. Some tailgate parties are huge organized events and partygoers bring their full sized grill, complete outdoor furniture set and more!  However, you can relax and keep it simple, yet still have fun.  Not everyone has a vehicle to transport these oversized items!

Typical equipment you’ll need include a tailgate cooler, grill, grill utensils, portable chairs, sun umbrella (if it’s hot outside), picnic basket and plastic ware, music/CD player and maybe some decorations.  Of course, don’t forget the food!  A tailgate party isn’t any fun without hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill.  Other fun food favorites include, chili, nachos, pasta salad, wings and ribs.  Actually, there are no hard and fast rules about what to eat.  Think superbowl party and it will be easy to come up with a menu.

Organize Frequent Summer Picnics with Ease!

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

Picnic Basket SaleIt’s officially picnic season and a wonderful time to sit back, relax and enjoy a picnic outdoors. Picnics are often avoided because it feels like to much work to prepare, but it doesn’t have to be that way. The key is to be organized and always have supplies on hand.

Begin by stocking up with everything you would need for a typical picnic and keep it in a convenient location. Supplies can be stored conveniently inside a picnic basket or a clear lidded container. Here are a few items you might want to have on hand:

  • Picnic blanket
  • Tablecloth
  • Picnic basket, ideally stocked with dinnerware
  • Beverages
  • Real ice in freezer and/or ice blocks (blue ice)
  • Pitcher sized beverage cooler
  • Food cooler
  • Paper napkins & plasticware
  • Portable gas grill & supplies
  • Kitchen towels or Food covers (to prevent bug contamination)
  • Bug repellant spray & afterbite
  • Sunblock
  • Outdoor game set

If you prefer to picnic at a table, you may also have a folding table and camping chairs on hand. You can purchase a ready made picnic set that will also store all of your food and beverages inside a nice basket. This is the most convenient option and will save on preparation time. There are also ready made picnic sets for tailgate picnics, which include a small portable grill! Check these out at Home Storage Warehouse.

Wine accessory sets come in an attractive case and can be stored with the rest of your picnic supplies. So stock up today on some picnic supplies and picnic at your leisure!

Getting Organized for a Year Round Barbecue Season

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Barbecue Grill Tools SetIn a few days it will be the fourth of July and many Americans around the nation are currently planning and organizing an Independence Day barbecue picnic. We often tend to think of barbecuing as something we do for a special occasion, but a dinner barbecue can easily be incorporated into your schedule on an ongoing basis, especially if you have the convenience of cooking on a gas grill and are organized with all the necessary tools and equipment to grill whenever the mood strikes.

There’s something special about food that has been prepared on a grill. Barbecued food tastes better, cooks faster, and is usually healthier. Cooking meats, like beef and chicken, on a grill can be better for your health because the excess oils are able to easily drain from the meat during the cooking process.Barbecue Grill Tools Set Steel Case

Special grilling tools are required for barbecuing. For convenience, I recommend purchasing a set of grill tools that are organized in a hard case or bag. After each use, take the time to return your tools to the bag or case and you will always know where they are when you need them.

Organized Entertaining: Safely Organize & Store Your Fine China

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

If you entertain regularly and use special china for your guests, you may have a few pieces on display with the remainder put away, due to limited space.  It’s important that you store your china with care, especially if you have heirloom pieces or the china is expensive to replace.  This is particularly important if you have inquisitive children who may decide to play pretend with your fine china!

Stacking the china in a location that may get bumped or moved around is risky.  China Storage Boxes are the answer to this problem, since they are especially made for fine china and will protect it from bumps, resulting in unsightly chips or scratches.

China Storage Boxes come in all sizes, for dinner plates, salad plates, saucers and more, and can be stashed away quickly and easily until you need them for your next occasion.

For more information on these China Storage Boxes, click here.

Organized Entertaining: Wine & Dine Your Guests Using Function & Style

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

If you regularly serve wine to your guests, it’s nice to have an organized system in place that you can enjoy time and time again.

If you’re short on counter space, set up a specific area for serving. There’s no need to run out and hire someone to build a custom bar, a simple baker’s rack will do just as well.  Many racks even come equipped with storage for several wine bottles. Plus there is usually at least one shelf that you can use for serving.

A baker’s rack is also ideal for storing any additional bar tools that you like to have handy while entertaining. A baker’s rack can be located in the kitchen, living room or dining room.

If you don’t have the space for a baker’s rack, a wine cart is a perfect addition to any home and works well in small spaces.  Each wine cart holds wine bottles, several wine glasses and can be moved from room to room as needed.  Wine carts are also perfect for outdoor rooms, patios and recreation rooms.

Have some fun with your wine related storage.  Getting organized doesn’t have to be boring.  Here are a few fun and unique items to consider before the rush of holiday entertaining.
